Sometimes it can be a little hard determining whether or not something is “recyclable”. Fortunately, most items contain a recycling symbol on its packaging which contains a numerical value denoting whether or not that specific item can be recycled. The Barcode Trashcan removes the guessing by allowing the user to “scan” the item he/she wishes to recycle. If the item can be recycled, the appropriate bin will open.

Has to be said, that’s a pretty cool idea. I’d definitely recycle more if there was some technological incentive to do so – even better would be if the trash can spoke to you..
