Okay, I know this isn’t tech related. But I ran into the this Neatorama post about a 17-month old baby that can read like a 7-year old. Elizabeth Barrett has been read stories to her since she was young by her two speech pathologist parents. Her mother, Kathy, is convinced sign language has helped Elizabeth learn to read by watching “Signing Time” on TV. For play time, Kathy likes to write down random words for her daughter to read. Even the interviewer and camera man tested Elizabeth by writing down words for her to read. At one point, the interviewer opened a magazine and tested the kid. She read like a champ.
Update: If you are interested in watching Signing Time with your child. Visit this page to see when the show is airing in your area. Just scroll to the middle of the page and enter your zip code. -Thanks, Janel!

Here is the link to the article too. That doesn’t amaze me, well actually it does because she is so young but our family also uses the Signing Time products and I too have seen huge improvements in my own child. My son wasn’t spelling words at a young age but he was able to communicate his wants and needs to me without all the fustrations parents normally have with their toddlers while they are learning to talk. I love Signing Time for the music and interactive entertainment they offer! Visit them online at http://www.signingtime.com
Hi Janel,
Thanks for the additional links. I thought Signing Time was just a TV show. I’m sure other ‘amazed’ parents will be glad to know they can purchase Signing Time products for their child, especially for those that don’t get the PBS channel. I’ve updated the post so the interested can find out when the show is airing in their area.
Oh yeah, you can count me in on one of those toddlers that gave their parents frustrations when learning to talk. I was a late kid. =)
