Check out this awesome Etch A Sketch clock that displays the time. Using a computer, motors, and probably some rubber belts (to turn the knobs), the clock re-draws the time every minute. You can see it flip over to erase itself once a minute has passed. It’s an amazing sight. Developed by Angela (angelabuilds), she states that the Etch A Sketch clock is based on the “Arduino platform and references Scott Fergerson’s awesome CNC EAS as well as Douglas Jones’s excellent site on steppers.”
3M has been working with a secret partner (they won’t reveal who) to develop an ultra tiny projector capable of displaying images up to 50 inches wide. Pretty amazing for something the size of a matchbook. 3M says the secret to the technology is the lighting engine. 3M wants to be the first to market the tiny and portable projector saying it will sell the device for $300 to $400 at first, then prices should fall to $150 five years later.
So, I guess we should be getting ready to see built-in projectors on our cell phones? Cool, count me in.
We’ve all seen fancy fireplaces that we could only dream of having in our homes. We’ve seen glass fireplaces, rotating fireplaces, and LCD TV-esque fireplaces. But, have you seen a fireplace inside a coffee table? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
The Planika Fires “Ground Floor” line is essentially just that - a coffee table that doubles as a fireplace. The Ground Floor comes in two styles — the American black walnut veneer can be placed alongside ruby red or traffic white high gloss varnishes. The fireplace uses FANOLA fuel to light the fire, which only emits water vapor and carbon dioxide; no smelly fumes or odors. For safety, the Ground Floor utilizes a glass cylinder to enclose the fire.
The stylish coffee table was designed by French designer, Christophe Pillet. Imagine roasting marshmallows while watching TV on the sofa…awesome!
Starting up your own iPhone band, huh? You might want to take a look at the MixMeister Scratch for the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you can’t figure it out by now, it is essentially an application that allows you to scratch vinyl on your Apple device, sort of. The MixMester comes preloaded with sound samples to get your inner DJ going. If that isn’t good enough for you, you can also ’scratch’ any of your existing songs. Wikki wikki!
The MixMeister Scratch isn’t out yet, but you can sign up to the newsletter to be alerted when it is ready for download.
Etsy seller, GeekGear, apparently had a NES copy of “Days of Thunder,” you know the game based on the Tom Cruise movie. It seems GeekGear wasn’t a big fan of the game and decided to turn the NES cartridge into something a little more useful. A clock. He even mounted the game on an acrylic stand, to give it the more ‘official’ clock look. I think it also adds style.
“The clock features black hands and a quartz motor. The clock stands 5 1/4 inches high by 4 1/2 wide.” It’s up for sale, $17.99. Hurry, because there’s only one up for grabs.
Skullcandy unveiled its lightweight MP3 playing headphones, dubbed the “Double Agent”. The headphones accepts MP3 tunes from an SD card, so you won’t be needing any external device. Just insert the card and listen away. You can even connect the Double Agent to a computer via USB to transfer over your tunes. Music controls are provided on the side of the headphones. Skullcandy is also including a SD card with pre-loaded tunes from its music partners. The Double Agent is rechargeable, so you won’t be spending extra dough on batteries.
It comes in orange/brown, yellow/white, and black; should arrive in April or May.

The Asus R700t measures 128 x 80 x 13.2 mm and weighs a feathery 200 grams. The unit is available in Taiwan for about $394.
Hot Topic has a rather geeky Pac-Man hoodie for sale. I’m surprised to see them carry an item like this, normally they only carry music-related items. Regardless, for retro-fans, snag one for $45. The front is zippered.
