O’Neill NavJacket: GPS in your sweater

oneill-navjacket.jpg

O’Neill, the sports clothing company, has announced the NavJacket, a sweater jacket with a built-in GPS. The NavJacket looks like your ordinary ski/snowboarding sweater jacket, except it has got a flexible GPS LED display sewn onto the left sleeve. The display provides information about your current speed, distance traveled, and weather forecasts. It also has built-in speakers inside the hood to provide audio instructions. In addition, the NavJacket allows wearers to connect their cell phone to the GPS, providing the phone with 3D maps and points of interests throughout the resort. Other reported features include the “find a friend”, which allows you to locate your friends on the slopes or follow the route they took. O’Neill plans to release the consumer version in time for the 2008/2009 Winter season.

We hear news stories of lost snowboarders every winter. The NavJacket should help prevent snowboarders from getting lost should they travel off course.

Orbitwheel skates - eh?

For $144.95, you can break your ankles with the Orbitwheel. Not quite like Rollerblades, the Orbitwheel skates are single wheeled, one for each foot; it requires a ‘twisting’ motion to generate movement. Also, instead of facing forward while you skate, the Orbitwheel makes you skate sideways.

FMG-9: is that a flashlight? Nope, it’s a foldable submachine gun

Holy crap. At first, when watching the video, I was like, “That’s gonna be a hassle manually unfolding.” Little did I know. The FMG-9, developed by Magpul, is essentially a glorified Glock handgun. It utilizes the Glock’s receiver and magazine cartridge. In its folded state, it looks very much like an ordinary flashlight, but when the time calls for you to get a little nasty, a press of a button will unfold the unsuspecting flashlight into a submachine gun. It is remarkable how fast it unfolds. I guess you would need it too, especially during urgent times.

I can’t tell you how speechless I was when the flashlight unfolded…

The FMG-9 is strictly a concept. They do not intend on selling it. It’s currently being used as a “here’s what Magpul can do” product.
