Manufactured by In2Games is the Gametrak Freedom, which provides full motion control to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s Playstation 3 video game consoles. Just like the Nintendo Wii’s Wiimote and Nunchuck, the Gametrak Freedom is being touted as “a remarkable ultrasonic 3D motion sensing technology which delivers performance, control and flexibility far in excess of that offered by existing technologies.” Apparently, the controller tracks the precise 3D position of the controller for accurate control and movement for up to four players.
In sum, you can think of the Gametrak Freedom as an equivalent (sort of speak) to Nintendo’s Motion Plus add-on to the Wiimote, except that it’s for the Xbox 360 and PS3. It is obvious that In2Games is a fan of Nintendo’s design, since their controller is almost a replica of the Wiimote. It even has the trigger (B button) in the exact same location. The entire system comprises of a base unit and the Gametrak Freedom controller itself. The base unit attaches to the console through USB. The only game compatible with the controller will be Squeeballs, a Wii Sports-like clone.
In2Games has not announced any pricing details but is expected to begin shipping the Gametrak Freedom sometime next year. I, however, still prefer the analog sticks…
