Too lazy to make your own Munny Doll speakers? Well, lucky for you, there’s a just as cute speaker up for sale by designer Marka27 at Tainted Visions. The Midnight Mexico MiniGod speakers are made from vinyl, measures 17-inches tall, and resembles the look of a totem pole. However, if you want one, you better hurry because they’re in limited quantities.

The Midnight Mexico MiniGod speakers cost between $109.95 to $119.95 USD depending on the model you choose. They cost a pretty penny for something so puny. But, hey, at least they’ll look rad sitting on your desk. The speakers come with an AC adapter and feature an internal amplifier and a mini-jack connector so you can hook up your digital music player (iPod, MP3 player, etc). They even come with a bonus mix CD by DJ Plan B. The Midnight Mexico MiniGod speakers come in brown, black, and Mexico theme.

Cowon‘s latest gadget is the S9 Curve portable media player. As its name implies, the S9 boasts a curved shell that practically doubles as a seesaw when placed on a table. All joking aside, the S9 Curve comes packed with a dual-core 500 MHz processor, 3.3-inch AMOLED touchscreen display (480 x 272 pixels, 16M colors), either an 8GB or 16GB hard drive, G-Sensor accelerometer, FM tuner, voice recorder, and T-DMB for digital mobile TV. Sadly, if the T-DMB tuner wasn’t a clue, we probably won’t be seeing this Apple-esque PMP stateside.

Of course, the S9 Curve will also be able to play your audio and video files. A dictionary, photo and ‘document’ viewer will also be available. Interestingly, the user interface will be Flash based. Hmm…

The Cowon S9 Curve’s battery life is project at 40 hours of audio or 8 of video. Recharge time is 6 hours via USB. No other word from Cowon on price or availability.

Harman Kardon is set to release its GLA-55 two-piece computer and portable media speakers. Sporting a cut glass enclosure, the Harman Kardon GLA-55 is expected to sound pretty well given the company’s “high-fidelity audio” reputation. The speakers sport a chrome base, Atlas woofers, and CMMD tweeters — thumping 56 watts each. Regardless, I’m not quite too keen on the GLA-55′s look. Some will find it classy and elegant, but I think it looks like a giant piece of jagged ice.

The Harman Kardon GLA-55 also features touch sensitive controls, 3.5mm mini-jack connection, and a 100-watt bi-amplified digital amplifier with digital signal processing (DSP) equalization for optimized digital sound.

Harman Kardon is expected to launch the GLA-55 sometime this fall for an unannounced price. However, rumor has it that only 3,000 units will be made for around £500 ($887 USD) apiece.

The problem with standard headphones is that they tend to ‘tune’ you out of your surroundings, especially if you’re the type to listen to music really loudly. The real issue is that you can’t hear your environment and the people around you, because you’ve effectively filtered them out by blasting your music through the headphones. Designer Seohyun Baek saw this as a problem and as a result created the Semicircle Headphones.

The Semicircle concept headphones fits in your ears without droning out your surroundings. So, as you walk down the street, you’ll be able to hear and avoid the car coming right at you as you cross the intersection. Baek also says the design is less tiresome on your ears, maintaining comfort throughout your listening session. So, not only does it look cool and feel comfortable, it may also save your life. Connection-wise, the Semicircle sports a Bluetooth receiver that syncs with a wireless transmitter attached to your portable music player.

The Hello Kitty Digital MP3 Player contains 1 GB of space equivalent to approximately 64 hours of music and is operated by 1 AAA battery. Included with the MP3 player are 3 face plates, headphones, a USB cable, and Music Express Software. Appropriate for ages 7 and up, this MP3 player won’t hurt your budget much as it only costs $39.99 at ToysRUs.
PRESS RELEASE:

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21, 2008 – Sony today took the wraps off its new wireless, multi-room audio system for listening to iPod players.

The new S-AIRPLAY system features Sony’s S-Air technology, which provides a practical, wireless multi-room solution without complicated set-up requirements. Wireless audio can be transmitted from the system’s main docking station in one room to various rooms throughout the home — up to nearly 164 feet-simply by plugging a separate S-Air wireless speaker into a power outlet.

“This technology makes it easy to listen to music from a compatible iPod without carrying it from room to room,” said Andrew Sivori, director of marketing in the personal audio group at Sony Electronics’ Digital Imaging and Audio Division. “It’s an easy, inexpensive way to get multi-room audio without professional installation.”

S-Air technology delivers audio wirelessly to the included speakers without interfering with other household devices. The system comes with one docking station and two S-Air wireless speakers, but it can transmit to up to 10 speakers simultaneously (additional speakers sold separately).

Equipped with an AM/FM tuner, the S-AIRPLAY system’s dual source feature lets users listen to music from the iPod player or from a radio station. Listeners in one room can hear their favorite radio station, while listeners in another room can enjoy music from the iPod at the same time.

The S-Air wireless speakers include remote control capability for the iPod player’s music tracks so you can advance or go back to previously played songs. The speakers also incorporate sleep timers and an alarm clock function, making them perfect for bedside placement.
To connect to an existing home theater system or television set, the docking station includes composite A/V outputs. It also charges the iPod while it is docked.

Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders for the S-AIRPLAY audio system are now being accepted online at www.sonystyle.com. The system (model AIR-SA20PK) will be available in September for about $400 at Sony Style® retail stores and select retailers nationwide. Additional S-Air wireless speakers will also be available next month for about $130 direct from Sony.

Ever wanted a cute set of speakers for your office desk? Well, check out the Munny Speakers “mod” from Fungus Amungus at Instructables. You’ll need a pair of Munny dolls ($25 via KidRobot) and 3″ drivers like these <a href="bamboo drivers ($22 each). Simply cut a 3″ circle off of the doll’s head with a Xacto knife to fit in the speakers. The Munny dolls are made of vinyl so you might want to use a blow dryer to warm up the doll’s face to soften it before cutting. After cutting off the faces, create a small puncture hole in the doll’s neck to thread the speaker wire. After threading the wire, fill the heads with polyfill and then attach/seal the speakers to cover the hole.

You’ve now got a set of cute Munny doll speakers. Full instructions at Instructables.

My, my, my. Look at what MobiBLU has in store for us on May 1st. Sporting a tiny full-colored OLED screen, 2GB of storage, FM tuner, JPEG photo viewer, voice recorder, and audio playback — supporting MP3, WMA, and WMA protected files — the MobiBLU Cube3 has got to be the smallest portable audio player to hit the market. Video playback is also possible with support for MSV video files (conversion software is included to convert WMV, MPG, and ASF video files to MSV), but who in the world would want to watch a video on a tiny-ass screen? For the music junkies, the Cube3 is PlayForSure certified, so you can download all the tunes you want from music download sites and subscription services. SRS WOW HD and TrueBass Sound are supported for enhanced audio quality. Plus, SRS equipped earbuds are included.

Battery life is a respectable 10 hours of playback. However, for such a small sized device, I was expecting a little more…but I digress. The MobiBLU Cube3 will retail for $99.

Who knows what the next iPod product Apple plans on releasing? Designer Peter Hwang has come up with an idea. Called the iPod “Capsule”, it looks like a very worthy replacement to the Shuffle. The concept looks like a medicine pill, sporting a two-tone (pink and silver) color scheme; except, you don’t swallow these. The iPod Capsule concept features the same “Home” button that is found on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

However, Hwang didn’t stop there. He even brewed up his own iPod Capsule docking station that is equipped with speakers and is capable of charging and syncing the MP3 player.

Too bad this isn’t reality.

Wow. I thought I’d never see a breadboard ever again after graduating from college, but I guess I was wrong. Well, at least it’s being used for something really cool, like the Plasma Speakers. Unlike traditional speakers which compress air waves (to generate sound) using magnets and flexible cones, the plasma speakers use “the non-gas, non-liquid, non-solid ‘fourth state of matter’ plasma” to generate the compression waves. Running at 50W, the speakers are set at a frequency response range of 200Hz to 12kHz.

Manual labor powered gadgets aren’t new. I posted about the Eco-Media Player last week. So, here’s a cranking MP3 Player, from Thanko, to add to the list. The player can be powered by AC outlet, USB, or by cranking. Its handle crank is located on the rear of the device that easily ‘flips-out’ for use. Each minute of manual cranking generates 10 minutes worth of play time. It supports MP3 and WMA audio files. It also doubles as a flashlight, for your adventures in the dark. Unfortunately, no LCD screen, but it does come with 1GB of storage.

The Cranking MP3 Player measures 75 x 45 x 34.5mm and costs just under $63 at GeekStuff4U.
