transformer-concept-phone.gif

The Transformer concept phone from Ukraine designer, Shkinder Maxim, possess the ability to “transform” into various devices. The Transformer concept is not only a cell phone, but it’s also a camera/video recorder, multimedia player, projector, and holographic image projection and 3-D scanner. The phone has an innovative, swiveling design that allows the user to easily “unfold” the Transformer into the device he or she needs.

Pretty wild.

Sang Da SD999: surveillance smartphone

sang-da-sd999-1.jpg

The Sang Da SD999 is a cell phone and a surveillance camera package, that allows you to keep an eye on things at a distance away. Using radio frequency, the included “mini” wireless CCTV camera streams the video to the mobile phone. Unfortunately, the range on the Sang Da SD999 is only 10-30 meters, so no long range spying here. I’m sure it’ll come in handy around the house though. Keeping an eye on the kids and all. The camera also sports a “night vision” mode.

The Sang Da SD99 cell phone features a 3-inch QVGA display, 1.3-megapixel camera, microSD slot, Windows Mobile 5.0, and a preinstalled NES emulator. The CCTV camera, on the other hand, cannot record video with sound. There is no zooming or remote rotating of the camera either. Bummer.

Looking at the photo below, the video quality isn’t ‘that great’. No idea on pricing.

Fascinating Figure cell phone concept

fascinating-figure-cell-phone.jpg

Designed by Xiao Zhihua, the inspiration behind the Fascinating Figure are the beautiful reflections on a lake. As such, the Fascinating Figure concept has a large, transparent screen. When powered off, staring at the screen would mimic the same experience as if you were staring directly down into a lake. When operating, the display is adaptive, allowing it to automatically adjust the screen settings depending on the user’s environment for optimal viewing. The phone is capable of playing music, video, images, and web surfing — all while giving off a water like reflection.

The Fascinating Figure boasts an adjustable touchscreen interface that can be tailored to a user’s mood. You can change the background to any desired image to fit your preference. The phone supports horizontal, diagonal, and vertical orientation.

Sony Ericsson W890i: Review

w890i-2.jpg

Sony Ericsson has a successor to the mixed-received W880i, the W890i. Sony Ericsson, for the most part, has kept many of the design cues from the W880i: thin and attractive. However, this time, the W890i has a 3.2 megapixel camera and larger numeric buttons, which was a common complaint with the predecessor’s too tiny numeric pad. Overall, the W890i’s slim package, 3G support, and excellent Walkman player makes it worth considering.

Samsung “MiniSkirt 2″ phones: girl not included

samsung-miniskirt-2.jpg

Samsung has upgraded its existing “MiniSkirt” line of phones with the “MiniSkirt 2″ - going by the model name: SCH-C225/SPH-C2005/SPH-C2255. I don’t know what the fascination is with Asian companies and weird product names, but the phone is your typical modern mobile. The MiniSkirt 2 has “Smile Shot”, a smile-recognition function that takes pictures when the subject is smiling. In addition, it is also equipped with a touch-sensitive vibrating keypad, for a more tactile feel.

For the most part is shares the same features as the previous model:

* 2.2-inch display
* Slide design with 10.9mm thickness
* 2 megapixel camera
* microSD slot
* audio and video media player
* Bluetooth
* GPS
* dictionary

I’d expect 3 hours of talk time and 120 hours standby as far as battery life is concerned (just like the original “MiniSkirt” model). Price is expected to be around 400,000 and 500,000 KRW ($400 - $500 USD).

More pics of the MiniSkirt 2 phone after the jump.

Nokia N96

nokia-n96-1.jpg

The Nokia N96 is slated to hit Europe Q3 2008. Playing the role as successor the the N95, the N96 acts more like a multimedia player. Its got a DVB-H receiver (for live TV broadcasting), 2.8-inch screen, and 16GB of storage space (plus an microSD slot). MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, and WMA playback is supported for audio, while MPEG-4, WMV, and Flash video playback is possible. Internet access is available with its WLAN and HSDPA support. Plus, with its 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and integrated A-GPS, users can ‘geotag’ and share their photos. The Nokia N96 can of course make phone calls, but I mean, who cares about phone calls when you can watch YouTube on-the-go? It even has a kickstand so you can place it on a table and watch a movie.

Estimated price is 550 Euros (about $855 USD).
