The Faucet Buddy concept is an excellent and elegant design idea that allows you to check on how much water your household has wasted consumed. Utilizing an LCD screen attached just before the spout end, it displays the total gallon usage and the temperature of the water, so you’ll never have to touch scolding hot water ever again.
If the Current State concept was too much for you, here’s a simpler way to make sure your appliances aren’t using too much power. Using an embedded LED, the Glowing Socket glows red if a connected device is consuming electricity. The brighter the red glow, the more power the appliance is consuming. This makes it easier to see which appliance in your house is energy inefficient, allowing you to unplug the “un-green” device. Of course, if you aren’t interesting in seeing your wall “glow red”, you can switch off the feature with a press of the button conveniently located on the upper right of the outlet. But, then, why would you even buy it?
I think this is a great way to find out if your appliance continues to consume electricity when powered off. I’m sure there are toasters out there that will eat up little bits of power when not in use. Sure it may not be much, but that all adds up in your electrical bill.
Okay, this futuristic remote control is another head scratcher. Sure, it is a cool idea, but to me, the concept is just too gimmicky to be practical. Designed by a Duch design student, the remote sports a multi-touch pad-esque finger sensor. The remote control requires you to use finger gestures to operate the TV. To turn the TV on, you spread your fingers apart in the remote’s center cavity. To change the channel, you either “slide” your finger up or down. To turn off the TV, you make a “pinching” gesture. Finally, to adjust the volume, you gently adjust the remote’s up or down tilt to increase or decrease the volume. It can auto balance itself, as long as it remains between 0 to 40 degrees.
I know, confusing. I’d rather just press buttons. But, watch the video for a demo…it’ll all make sense.
Suzuki has unveiled its Kizashi 3 concept and it looks hawt and shiny. The four-door sedan has a very aggressive, yet attractive, stance. Its front fascia and headlights give it that angry look. Which I like. The Kizashi 3 concept is outfitted with 21-inch dubs, six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters, and all-wheel drive. Engine-wise, Suzuki has plans for a 300-hp, 3.6-liter V6.
A Suzuki Kizashi 3 equivalent could see production as early as 2010.
Kia unwrapped its KOUP concept at the New York Auto Show. The car is a coupe (hence, the ‘KOUP’ name) that sports a rather aggressive styling, which is not what Kia is known for. The KOUP concept is outfitted with front and rear carbon fiber diffusers, carbon fiber side view mirrors, two-tone seats, panoramic glass roof, and Brembo brakes. Engine-wise, Kia has plans for a 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged engine with direct injection pushing 290 horsepower and 289 lb-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm. The car also gets MacPherson struts up front and a dual-link arrangement in the rear for a nice balance in handling. The KOUP is also blessed with Continuous Damping Control (CDC).
Not quite a reality, the Tron Hoodie (actually called “The Electronic Gladiator”) is was up for vote at Threadless. So, if you want to make the Tron Hoodie a reality so we can all purchase one go vote now!
Looks awesome, though. It even glows a light blue in the dark.
The helmet design to be printed on the hood looks like this:
Do you ever wonder what’s causing your energy bill to skyrocket? You’d be able to with a concept called the Current State. The idea is simple. By using what are called “Plug-Ends”, which plug into your electrical outlets, you connect all of your devices (TVs, computers, refrigerator, light lamps, etc) to the Plug-Ends and it’ll monitor the amount of electrical juice your appliances are consuming. Simply install the software onto your iPhone/iPod Touch and not only do you get a graphical representation of your home’s energy usage via Bluetooth, but you can also remotely turn off your devices. No more high energy bills!
The Transformer concept phone from Ukraine designer, Shkinder Maxim, possess the ability to “transform” into various devices. The Transformer concept is not only a cell phone, but it’s also a camera/video recorder, multimedia player, projector, and holographic image projection and 3-D scanner. The phone has an innovative, swiveling design that allows the user to easily “unfold” the Transformer into the device he or she needs.
